MBM Trainee Whitney Sinclair recently published an article on her research into the impact of gold nanoparticles on the metabolic activity and morphology of human pulmonary endothelial cell monolayers. The results of this research show that an 18-hour exposure of human pulmonary artery endothelial cells to the different nanoparticles modestly affects cellular metabolic activity.
Sinclair collaborated on this project with MBM faculty Deborah Leckband, advisor Paul Kenis, and other colleagues in the University of Illinois’ Departments of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry.
The article, “Gold nanoparticles disrupt actin organization and pulmonary endothelial barriers,” was published inĀ Scientific ReportsĀ in August 2020.
