Rashid Bashir Co-Leads Coronavirus Detection Research

Rashid BashirMBM faculty Rashid Bashir recently co-led a project to develop a smartphone-based device to detect coronavirus. The device is an inexpensive smartphone accessory that can detect viral and bacterial pathogens in about 30 minutes. The team of researchers is adapting it to detect coronavirus to reduce the pressure on testing laboratories during pandemics.

Bashir, who is also the dean of the Grainger College of Engineering and faculty in bioengineering, co-led the study with electrical and computer engineering professor Brian Cunningham.
