Multiple MBM faculty and trainees will combine their efforts to facilitate two new grant programs from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Alzheimer’s Foundation, in collaboration with Beckman Institute’s Neurotechnology for Memory and Cognition research group.
Hyunjoon Kong’s research group will use a grant from NSF to study how neurons and muscle cells communicate with each other. This neuromuscular junction work is closely related to research conducted by MBM trainees Collin Kaufman, Amanda Weiss, and Shannon Murphy. Martha Gillette and Gabi Popescu will also collaborate in this grant program.
In addition, Hee Jung Chung will collaborate with the Kong group on a second grant through the Alzheimer’s Foundation to study how a drug that has the potential to treat Alzheimer’s disease can be delivered into the body.
Both research projects will complement the research that the Miniature Brain Machinery Program is already furthering. Congratulations to all involved on this new development!
